You get the drill, whenever you see a box of Wedding Pastries or Xi Bing (喜饼) sent to your home, you know someone in the family is getting married. Now it is your turn to tie the knot and you wonder when do you exactly send them and what options do you have? Let us tell you!
When Do You Buy Wedding Pastries?
Boxes of wedding pastries (喜饼) are gifted from the groom and his family to the bride’s family during the betrothal session (过大礼). The bride’s family will then distribute the wedding pastries to relatives with the formal invitation card. This would be the traditional way to inform everyone about the upcoming nuptials and to invite them to the celebration. Today, extra boxes of pastries will be ordered so that the groom’s family can distribute and share with their relatives too. Talk about gender equality!
